The 2017 vintage will be talked about for years to come. There were multiple unforeseen challenges that
kept growers and winemakers on their toes until the ver y end. A hailstorm in June, August & September
heat waves and unpredicted California wildfires in October. In parts of the valley, picking took place
earlier due to extreme August and September heat. In others, Cabernet was picked later in November due
to the fires. This will create a bifurcation in the wine style for 2017: Some wines will be more elegant with
structure due to the shorter hang-time, and the later-picked wines will have a more plush mouthfeel and
24% of the 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was barrel-fermented and barrel-aged in new French
Oak. The balance of the wine was fermented traditionally, in stainless steel tanks, then moved to French
neutral oak for balance.
Intense ruby in color, this Cabernet opens with a lovely bouquet of for ward fruit, soft notes of oak from
the barrel fermentation, some anise and a hint of mocha. Ripe black fruit unfolds on the palate offering
cassis, blackberry and black cherry. The finish is long and lingering with a smooth rich texture.
